Amsterdam’s Voicst may still be touring consistently on the Unsigned circuit but they already have a strong following, both from their live reputation and from last year’s Eat the Evidence EP. And that’s quite acceptable because the burst of energy that is ‘Acts of Fire’ demonstrates perfectly all of the passion that Voicst are capable of producing. Loud and fiery with guitars blazing, it’s a fun song with much more to showcase than just straight-out noise.
‘Sticky Plans’ and ‘Detail 2003’ follow and just fly by, with the layers of melody almost betraying the rawness and explosiveness of the songs. ‘She Raw’ shows a slightly gentler side, although, by no means soft or without menace. And then before you know it, ‘Porn’ closes the EP with a dirty swagger, all ending so very fast.
There is going to be much more of Voicst in 2004, though, and as a taster, Eat the Evidence already has everyone waiting impatiently for their brand of guitar rock.
