There has been a selection of new material on Stayfun over the past week. Here's a quick rundown...

You may not have heard of Matt Boyer as a solo musician, but if you caught Sun Kil Moon live on their recent European tour then you've already seen him perform. Well his own EP Sukuinage is available and it's quite lovely, so read the review here.

Scottish band Cayto have been going for ages. There are a few Cayto's in the world actually, with various variations on the spelling too. But this version have gotten fairly popular in Scotland, so to learn more read the review of their latest single Morning.

Then there is also a host of live reviews. This James Orr Complex review is particularly amusing, and is from the free Belle and Sebastian concert that took place in Glasgow in June. Also there is a review of the latest Beggars Banquet signing Dead Fly Buchowski, and then one of Stayfun favourites Macrocosmica plus their support acts.

Finally, there are 3 radio broadcasts tonight. Broadcast Stayfun begins at 8pm CET and is a Covers Project. Following that at 9pm, Stayfun contributor Marie Diamond offers up an hour of sounds from her native Pacific North-West. Then from 10pm, believe it or not, there is potentially a host of Brazilian sounds, all the way from Brazil weirdly enough.

There will be two hours of Broadcast Stayfun tonight, starting at 9pm CET.

9pm - Broadcast Stayfun (the Original) is back.
10pm - Radioerm featuring some pop hits, and for one night only, it includes the shortest mash-up ever, entitled "You suffer in the gay bar". Yep, "You Suffer" by Napalm Death is doubled in length by the addition of some Electric Six. Don't miss it.

Listen in from 9 by clicking here!

Although the summer is a quiet time for gigs, last night The Thermals hit Rotown and put on the kind of blazing rock show Holland has come to expect from them. Read the review of that here.

Last month Rotown also brought us a stunning gig from Canadian supergroup, Broken Social Scene. Again, the review of this one has been held up due to technical difficulties but it's finally available here.

The lengthy period of being offline has gotten in the way of a few articles getting online, and one of those to be delayed most has been the wonderful Metropolis Festival in Rotterdam. Well, it's here now, so enjoy.

There were over 75 events added to the gig guide today. Some are big, some are small, and some have more interest to Stayfun than others.

Friday, October 1 sees 50 Foot Wave making their Dutch debut at the Paradiso. Regular readers should of course know that this is the newest rock band from Kristin Hersh, and that they're quite ferocious in style. Of course, you can buy their debut mini-album here at the Stayfun Shop, cheaper than anywhere else in Holland I'm sure. But for those still unsure enough to hand out precious cash, you can road-test half the album via Epitonic. So if you visit this page, you can download 'Clara Bow', 'Lavender', and 'Long Painting'.

Further 50 Foot Wave news is that they have another song appearing on the cover CD for the latest issue of the English music publication Comes With a Smile. This is a really nice magazine with lots of other good bands on the CD, and this issue in particular is quite Dutch-friendly, with submissions from Bauer and Daryll-Ann too, as well as the more well known acts from across the world.

Also vaguely related to Kristin Hersh is that the Giant Sand tour has added a stop at the Paradiso on September 30. Howe Gelb has of course recorded and performed with Hersh, and support on this tour is from Thalia Zedek.

And while in London the other day, it was weird to discover so much of the city plastered in posters advertising Sons and Daughters. Seems this little Scottish band really are getting themselves around, just as I predicted way back whenever I reviewed their album Love the Cup. They're good, so check them out.

Well a broken laptop and 500 miles between me and the proper Stayfun computer can certainly get in the way of updating this website, but I am back. A normal service is hopefully on the way once I iron out a few bugs that have appeared in my absence.
