A quick summary of a few of the latest editions to the website.

On the live front you can find reviews of The Dears, The Killers and The Dresden Dolls. A couple more gigs from this week should be appearing too. It's that time of year when the flow of concerts strengthens and you have to make sacrifices to see whatever you can.

With reviews, check out this write up of Hood. Their new album is out now on Domino and seems to sound as good as the review suggests. Then there is How to Swim, a quirky art band from Glasgow who never seem to sound like you'd expect.

Andrew Bird should be appearing at the Paradiso on May 1, although, it may not be listed on the website yet. 50 Foot Wave should also be hitting the Netherlands in late April/early May in support of their new album Golden Ocean which is out in a couple of weeks. And of course, wee Biffy Clyro will be in Rotterdam and Amsterdam next week. Now massive in the UK, please show them that they can do alright in mainland Europe too.

This coming weekend I hope to be seeing Macrocosmica live. Here are their confirmed European dates for April...

20/04 - Gent, Cafe Video
21/04 - Hechtel-Eksel, Paul's Wereld
22/04 - Hoogstraten, Cahier de Brouillon
23/04 - Aarschot, JC de Klinker
24/04 - Amsterdam, OCCII

Please add to your diary. I will be performing random spot checks over the coming months. Anyone who cannot recite them in order shall be severely punished.

I used to always refer to this place as 'Rotterdam Rock City'. Clearly I was wrong and Dordrecht is out to steal the limelight. So look out for these gigs happening just down the road from me in the land of the quaint...

Feb 20 @ 15:00 - Denison Witmer (usa) / Audrey (swe) / Daniel Benjamin (usa) - Pictura. Free entry.

Feb 25 @ 21:00 - The Heights / Bingo Trappers / Eggs for Sixty - Popcentrale. Free entry.

Mar 25 @ 21:00 - Red Sparowes (usa, with members of Neurosis and Isis) - Popcentrale. Free Entry.

April 22 @ 21.00 - Electrocute (ger) / Ex-models (usa) - Popcentrale. Free Entry.

Apart from that, a steady stream of recommendations keep appearing on the site. I rarely announce them, so keep your eye out for changes to that menu on the left.

So news broke yesterday that Aereogramme were forced to postpone the Dutch dates that were due to happen this week. It's been a frustrating time for them, but in brighter news, singer Craig B's health has improved and they're expecting to pick up touring again in the middle of next week. Some of those Dutch dates may be rescheduled for late-Feb or early-March.

Tonight I finally got to cover the new John Wayne Shot Me album - the link is over there on the left, go look.

Really I'm updating the news page to tell people that Andrew Bird's new album The Mysterious Production of Eggs is released in Europe next Monday. This can be purchased over at the new Fargo Records online store for the bargain price of 15 euro. Even though their shop front is available only in French right now, if a language moron like me was able to fumble through it there is no excuse.

Anyway, my point is that this is quite possibly the album of the year. A bold statement for the beginning of February, yes, but if I come across a better record in 2005, it will make for some fantastic months ahead.

Just stuck some new recommendations online. Most important is probably El Hombre Trajeado who have just released a stunning album and need your support. But if you're bored and needing new songs to check out, you should of course download everything because it's free and may change your life.

The Sleater-Kinney recommendation comes from a new Belgian writer. S-K, of course, recently made the Sub Pop switch and their new album is due on May 24. For the hardcore downloaders out there who can't wait, there is a bootleg from their new year show supporting The Flaming Lips which contains only new songs. You should be able to find it via Easytree but in its lossless form it's a pretty big download.

Also wanted to mention that my long-running favourites, Aereogramme, are due back in NL next weekend. Look out for them in Groningen, Tilburg, Rotterdam and Haarlem. Sadly they had to cancel their recent UK tour due to vocalist Craig B suffering from a viral throat infection. As it stands, there is still a shadow of doubt over the European leg too, but here's hoping his health picks up in time.

While scanning the venue schedules on a quiet Sunday morning, it was a bit of a shock to stumble upon this new OCCII listing...

24 april
MACROCOSMICA.sco
stonerrock band, think ac/dc versus kyuss, with ex-members of teenage fanclub, mogwai
PFAFF.nl garage rock
SUMO.se

Only my band of 2003, it was briefly exciting. Then I realized I wouldn't actually be in the Netherlands that day. How disappointing. However, Macrocosmica have a new album out very soon, and I expect everyone else to take my place in OCCII.

On a brighter note for me, a listing appeared for Isis at 013 on May 31. It won't be the only Dutch date but it's good to know I'll be in the right country.
