You get the impression from opener ‘Turn To Stone’ that Ludovico are attempting to find some middle ground between Nirvana and Foo Fighters. There are hints of that poppier edge that Dave Grohl eventually evolved into, but Ludovico are so far refusing to sugar-coat their songs, and instead attempting to keep it dirtier and rougher. It’s probably for the best too, because it sounds good, and ‘Looking in the Mirror’ is boosted by the effect also, except this time it’s more “Kurt” in the verse, then more “Dave” in the chorus. However, ‘What Does This Mean’ is more of a standard rock dirge, so it’s less of an enthralling closer. Overall, the sound and songwriting is decent, though, so there is still hope for Ludovico to progress to bigger things.
