While most other instrumental guitar bands seem to have been moving towards grand orchestral and atmospheric goals lately, 65daysofstatic are channeling a new path on their own. Unsure what to call it, I’m thinking maybe glitch-rock for today.

The layering and guitar arpeggios they boast wouldn’t be foreign to your typical Mogwai or Godspeed fan, but where this new path gets murky is with the energy and danger of electro beats, scratches and broken noise. It makes me wonder…has it been done before? I don’t know. Possibly. Maybe just not as well.

So now I’m quite fascinated by 65daysofstatic. They seem to be forging two sounds I like very much into one beast. At this early stage (only 15 hours after first hearing them) it’s difficult to separate future obsession from the attraction and excitement of something new, but it’s possible I could develop a long-term attachment to this.

I’m linking to ‘Everything We Talked About Yesterday’, which is a fairly up-tempo, ravaging electro-monster featured in the unreleased/rare section of their website. There are a few things to examine there actually, but also pop over to Monotreme Records where there are a couple of MP3s from their album The Fall of Math.
