Dianogah

With a name lifted from Star Wars and a post-rock tag dutifully assigned to them, the music of Chicago’s Dianogah should be quite predictable to a typical indie rock fan by now. Only it isn’t, because this band manages to create a unique take on the genre with sounds only created by a drummer and two bassists. Not forgetting that it’s always nice to find a band playing music that is primarily instrumental without signs of being a Mogwai tribute act.

Their last release, Millions of Brazilians is a couple of years old now, but the band are on the eve of a European tour which brings them to Amsterdam’s OCCII on Sunday, March 28. So if their music is currently unfamiliar to you, then just now is the perfect chance to sample it.

The chosen download is ‘The Smallest Chilean’, which demonstrates in three minutes the ride Diagonah are capable of taking you on, with its steady rhythm, arpeggiated melodies, and fuzzed up bass chords. It makes for a nice taster that hopefully leaves you wanting more.
