Envy the West still remain Noord Brabant’s secret currently, but with the release of their debut album, Folding Fangs, things are about to change and they will gain much more notoriety within the Netherlands. It is difficult to pin them down to one style of music, or even to pick out their influences immediately, though, but surely this is a positive thing. What you can decipher is little shards of Low, Yo La Tengo, My Morning Jacket, all of which adds to the inability to pigeon-hole them easily.
Rather than select a track from the new CD, though, I want to highlight the lovely ‘Destroy Me’ featuring guest vocals from Marieke Vermunt, which wasn’t included with the album. It’s a nice online treat which does capture one segment of the Envy the West sound and acts as a good taster.
