They may not have the most radio-friendly name, but the debut album from this lot looks to be one of the most promising things happening early in 2004. Titled My First Machete, it is released on February 23 by Lost Dog Recordings.
Some of you may remember Ganger who were from Glasgow, at one point signed to Domino Records, and who also toured the world back in the late ’90s. Craig B went on from there to form Aereogramme of course, and now Natasha is the front-person of Fuck-Off Machete.
They have one full MP3 already available on their website, which is the mighty 'Sudosu'. Sonic Youth influences have been pointed out, but to me it has more in common with the dirtier bass grooves of Girls Against Boys, also backed up by the vocal tone too. Anyway, it's a superb song, and based on the two other smaller samples available, which show slightly different angles of the band, it's going to be a debut worth checking out.
