MP3: Sense of Snow
I’ve never used an actual band bio on one of my pages before, but the fact this band have translated it into so many languages on their website, I feel it’s earned its small place on my site…
“MAKAZORUKI COME FROM THE INDUSTRIAL AND RUGBY CITY OF ZENICA (BOSNIA). THE FOUR MEMBERS OF THE FORMER GROUPS CRAZY COWS AND SCHMAISSER GOT TOGETHER IN AMSTERDAM TO FINALLY FORM MAKAZORUKI IN 2001. THEY TEND TO THEIR OWN RECOGNIZABLE SOUND, THE SAME AS THEY DID IN THEIR EARLIER PROJECTS. THE HARD WORK IN THE REHEARSAL ROOM IS BEING REWARDED NOW WITH A DEMO, A SERIES OF SHOWS AND UPCOMING STUDIO-SESSION. THE LYRICS PRAISE THE DAILY LIFE AND THE GLOBAL SITUATION IN THE WORLD.”
I first heard of Makazoruki last year when they appeared on a limited Gone Bald release. I knew they were a part of Amsterdam’s underground noise-rock scene, but it’s only something I get to dip into a few times a year unfortunately. However, noticing they were playing one of the upcoming Radio Mortale shows with Gone Bald and Lushus at Volta, I decided to see what free audio is available on their site. So here you have it - ‘Sense of Snow’.
Fuelled by dark guitars and spitting bass, the song is caked in dynamics before spinning into a punchy monotone diatribe. I happily accept that radio unfriendly rock like this doesn’t suit everyone but I do love to delve into the awkward sounds of the underground every so often.
