Saw are a little indie-pop/rock group from France, and I’ve become a little taken with the song ‘Stand Up (I Call on You)’. Firstly, a tiny bit of history, though.

Led by Samuel Wulgué, the band has existed for over three years now, released a couple of albums and some EPs, toured with various bands all over France, and as it stands currently have set up their own record label, Little Star Records, to distribute not only their own music, but are in the process of taking on other bands too.

Via the label site, there are numerous samples of Saw in differing states of happiness, but the immediate stand out for me was ‘Stand Up’, from the recent album Today Carries Tomorrow. It just builds up really nicely from the bass, jangly guitar, keyboard thing, into a more uplifting chorus (if you give me a smile / there won’t be any mountains I can’t climb…). It’s not all bright and happy in a major key either. It’s simply a good sound and a catchy indie-pop song.

Further information about the band is available via the label site, although, currently a lot of the press is only available in French.
