MP3: How Peaceful Life Would Be Without Love and Joy (Ogg)

I have a notion that I’ve seen Sennen perform before, but then again maybe not. Based in Utrecht, I came across them last night when seeking more info about the upcoming Robotobibok concert at OCCII. Sennen complete the bill, and while much calmer than the manic Polish indie-rock jazz masters they’ll be playing alongside, their music is pretty good too.

Specialising in atmospheric instrumental (yes, I hate to say it) post-rock, there’s the same old Mogwai et al comparisons. But with the track I’m highlighting here, sure, it starts off with the long, delayed notes and subtle samples, then suddenly the drums kick in and it takes an accelerated twist. Not just a case of !Bam! distortion pedals on, it’s more cunning and unexpected.

Their files are of a very low bit-rate, but to be fair, they’re very listenable still. The only thing I wasn’t happy about was the navigation bar of their website not working properly in my Firefox.
