Trachtenburg Family

The Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players took Amsterdam by storm last week. Even the Postbank Lion was there (apparently). But for those who’ve missed out on their European tour and don’t know what the fuss is about, here’s a little background…

Take a less-than-typical father who is filled with musical ambition and let him write a host of quirky, humour-driven songs. Now take his wife, place her on a stage with an old slide projector and its unhealthy selection of weird and wacky slides so she can accompany the music visually. Finally, take their even lesser-than-typical 10-year-old daughter and let her play drums, as well as tell funny stories in the interludes. There, you’ve met the Trachtenburg’s.

It’s no wonder that the media loves this trio because there really isn’t anything else similar to them. Music fans are into them as well. It’s just difficult not to appreciate them. They write silly song, then they write sillier songs with deeper meanings, but mainly they entertain and make people laugh.

And even without the gimmick nature of their performance, their album Vintage Slide Collections From Seattle, Vol. 1 stands alone as something fun and eccentric, mixing folk and pop with some messed-up European influences too. Check out ‘What Will the Corporation Do?’ for an idea of what to expect.
