Under Byen by Jint

I’ve never been able to type their album title properly without copying and pasting it, let alone having the slightest clue of how to pronounce it, but Det Er Mig Der Holder Træerne Sammen from Danish band Under Byen is still pretty special. Released originally in 2002, it’s been given a new lease of life this year with issues across Europe as others catch on to the Scandinavian magic.

If you’ve heard Howe Gelb’s album The Listener, then you’ve already heard Under Byen. They acted as backing band for half of that project, and it gives a slight taste of the spacey cinematic sound they enjoy. However, on their own they really push their limits by creating gentle, lulling soundscapes using a range of beautiful acoustic sounds and strong, hypnotic vocals.

Admittedly the free samples on their website come with a reduced bit-rate that has stopped me including Under Byen here before. Well now I give up. It may only be 56kbps but you can still hear how wonderful ‘Det Er Mig Der Holder Træerne Sammen’ actually is.
